Founded in 1957 by Giuseppe Cencioni, Capanna holds an elite status as one of the original 25 founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium established in 1967. Situated in the celebrated Montosoli sub-zone—the prized northern cru widely considered to produce the most elegant, structurally sound, and long-lived Sangiovese in the region.
 
The 1983 growing season is celebrated by Italian purists as a highly elegant, 4-star vintage characterized by perfect balance and uniform quality across the region. Unlike the heavy, high-alcohol profiles of modern hot vintages, 1983 yielded highly aromatic, structurally precise Brunellos built to withstand decades in a dark cellar. At over 40 years old, this Riserva is in its majestic, fully evolved twilight phase.
